Psychotherapy FAQ

  • Our psychotherapy rates begin at $225 an hour and can be booked 60 minutes or 90 minute sessions.

You can use "Out of Network" benefits to get reimbursed instantly or wait a couple weeks for a direct deposit using Thrizer.

  • OON benefits are easy to use and understand once we clarify a few terms:

    • Out-of-network benefits: These are benefits within your health insurance plan that allow you to get money back for services from mental health providers (like me) who are not directly contracted with your insurance company. Your Out-of-network benefits can be used once your deductible is met.

    • Reimbursement: This is the money you receive back from your insurance company after you've paid for a service. With out-of-network benefits, you pay for your session upfront, and your insurance then pays you back a portion of that cost. Thrizer let’s you instantly get reimbursed or wait to receive a direct deposit.

    • Claim: This is the request we send to your insurance company to ask them to pay for a portion of a s service you've received. It provides all the necessary details about your session.

    • Deductible: The initial amount you pay for therapy before before your OON benefits kick in. Once you've paid that amount, your insurance starts to reimburse you.

    • Co-insurance: Once you've met your deductible, co-insurance is your share of the cost for a healthcare service. It's usually a percentage. For example, if your co-insurance is 20%, you pay 20% of the cost, and your insurance pays the remaining 80%.

    • Allowed Amount: The maximum amount your insurance will consider for reimbursement for a specific service.

    • Superbill: This is a detailed receipt I provide that contains all the information your insurance company needs to process a claim. If you prefer to not use Thrizer and instead submit claims on your own, you can use this document to submit a claim directly to your insurance for reimbursement.

  • Your benefits are usually easy to use. I partner with Thrizer, a company who will submit your claims to your insurance company and help you get reimbursed for therapy.

    Here's how it works:

    1. We’ll check your OON benefits before getting started to understand your deductible and reimbursement.

    2. Our practice will automatically bill your card after each session.

    3. We’ll then submit a claim to your insurance company using Thrizer.

    4. Thrizer allows you to either use your out-of-network benefits for instant reimbursement each session or wait a couple weeks for a direct deposit.

Thrizer handles any paperwork required, claim submitting and calling insurance companies. They have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year.

If you’d like to use an instant reimbursement, their claim fee is 5%. If you prefer to wait a couple weeks for a direct deposit reimbursement, their claim fee is 1%. You are responsible for this claim fee.

Note: Thrizer’s goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.

Should you wish to submit your insurance claims on your own and not use Thrizer, you can upload a monthly Superbill (a receipt of paid services) to your online portal and they will mai you a reimbursement check. We will automatically send you a monthly superbill to download. A Superbill is provided at no cost to you.

  • If you have out-of-network benefits, your plan typically reimburses about 60-80% of the cost of each session after your deductible is met.

Let's imagine your plan details tells you:

    • An out-of-network Deductible of $1,000

    • An out-of-network Co-insurance of 20% (meaning insurance covers 80%)

    • An Allowed Amount of $180 for each session

    Our session fee is $225/hour.

Phase 1: Working Towards Your Deductible

    • After about ~5 sessions, your deductible is met. You pay our full fee for these 5 sessions.

    • Thrizer automatically submits these claims, tracking your progress towards your deductible.

    • Thrizer does NOT charge you a claim fee during this phase.

Phase 2: After Your Deductible is Met (Your Costs Drop!)

    • Once your deductible is met, your insurance typically covers a large part of each session.

    • In our example, your insurance would cover about $144 of the session cost and your co-insurance $36.

Now, you have two great options with Thrizer:

Option A: Instant Reimbursement (Pay Less Upfront!)

    • You pay: ~$47 per session each week.

    • This amount includes your $36 co-insurance plus a small 5% Thrizer claim fee ($11.25) = $47.25 paid each session.

    • Thrizer instantly covers the rest of of your session fee. You don't wait for a direct deposit – you only pay your reduced portion upfront, much like a typical insurance co-pay!

Option B: Direct Deposit Reimbursement (Wait for Funds)

    • You pay full $225 per session each week.

    • Thrizer submits the claim, and your insurance sends up to $144 directly to your bank account, usually within a couple of weeks.

    • Thrizer's 1% claim fee (about $2.25) will be taken out of that reimbursement. So you'd get about $141.75 back each session ($144 - $2.25).

In either Option A or B, you get reimbursed from your insurance company.

The main difference is Option A allows you to use your Instant Reimbursement which lowers your weekly cost in real-time. Option A has a 5% claim fee due to Thrizer “floating” the remaining cost of your session."

Whereas Option B allows you to use your benefits still but takes a couples weeks. Option B has a 1% claim fee due to waiting to reimburse you.

Important Note: This is only an example above. The exact amounts (like the allowed amount, deductible, and co-insurance) and can vary by plan. Thrizer's benefit checker will give you a personalized estimate during your free intro call!

  • Thrizer will give you information specific to your insurance plan.

It's always a good idea to call your insurance company for extra clarity on questions like:

    • Am I able to use my "out-of-network" benefits for telehealth?

    • Can I retroactively submit "out-of-network" claims from this calendar year?

    • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?

    • Is there a maximum amount of sessions with these benefits?

    • Do my OON benefits cover EMDR and/or CBT?

    • How long does it take for me to receive reimbursement?

  • I accept all major credit cards and debit cards. Payment for service is due at the end of each session.

If you plan to use your out-of-network (OON) insurance benefits, I can assist you with this process.

You can utilize Thrizer to automate claims submission, or I can provide you with a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Please note: I do not accept pre-paid cards, checks, direct bank transfers, or third-party financing plans (such as those offered by specific healthcare credit providers) at this time.

Teletherapy is only offered to residents who reside and are physically located in the states of Florida, Tennessee, Vermont and South Carolina. • Our first 3-4 sessions involve us getting to know each other, exploring deeper your reasons for services, and enhancing coping skills. We will discuss your treatment goals and create an initial treatment plan.

During the first few months, we’re going to work on symptom reduction of anxiety and traumatic stress by incorporating CBT, parts work and EMDR, with yoga, reiki, and crystal healing.

If either of us feel we are not the right fit, I am happy to provide you referrals for colleagues and other providers who can best support your therapeutic needs.
