What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy focuses on mental health symptoms that are currently affecting the individual, that are rooted in the past or present. Therapy focuses on the symptoms and emotional experience and is typically longer term (6 to 12+ months varying per person).

Coaching focuses on present-moment and future goals by empowering the client to take action and support them step by step. Coaching focuses on task-oriented goals and is typically shorter-term (3 to 6 months varying per person).

Coaching, though similar to therapy in many regards, is not mental health therapy nor intended to substitute mental health advice

What if I am not sure if I need coaching or therapy?

If either of us feel your needs would best be supported therapeutically at time of consultation we will discuss psychotherapy options (if a FL, TN, or SC resident) or offer referrals to you in your area.

Due to ethical reasons coaching clients cannot simultaneously receive therapy services. If at any point it becomes clear that therapy would best support you, we are happy to refer you to wonderful and trusted therapist colleagues. Examples of coaching include active listening, working on mindset, and holistic modalities. Common things coaching supports you with are creating intentional goals and being empowered, receiving feedback, and creating a vision for your future.

Therapy is recommended if you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health symptoms.

Can I use insurance?
